Post Hydraulic trim on PD
what are your opinions on using hydraulic trim or manual? Kinda considering swapping to the Hydraulic. Are there any problems I should know about?

No, the hydro is the only way to go. That wheel will give you a heart attack.

Never driven the non hydro, but I can tell you the hydro trim is not as precise as i would imagine the wheel is. When you are trimming down, the motor slides another inch or two after you let off the button. You get used to it, but at times it can be annoying when running wide open and trying to get the trim exactly right. If somebody has a fix for this, would love to hear it, but I am just assuming they are all like that. As far as convenience goes...a no brainer.

i'm still running the winch trim. i think i prefer the winch setup best.

if anyone out there is running the winch, be sure to throw away that stainless cable and go get sum 5/16'' synthetic rope and use that stuff. cheaper and last 10x longer.

i've got over 400hrs on my synthetic rope and it stll looks new. i was changing out the stainless wirerope every couple months.

I'm looking to get my first mud motor and trying to keep cost down so it will likely be a used 27 HP. I've never ran a mud motor. Almost all of the areas I run are rivers with hard bottoms, hardly any mud, just shallow. How much trim adjustment will I actually be doing, I understand there will always be some, but tyring to determine if I should stay with the manual trim to keep cost down. Thanks.

If you aren't running mud I think you needing to move the trim would be minimal. I have the wheel. Thought I'd hate it but for what I run its fine for now. Unless your having to really dig or have drastic changes in boat load you can pretty much set it and forget it. I wouldn't sweat buying one with a wheel. You can always upgrade. And go with a 36 if you can swing it. You won't regret it. A 27 will just piss you off.

Trim is used way more than just in mud. I rarely run mud but am constantly on the trim. Once you figure out just how beneficial it is in all situations you will kick yourself for not having it. Just running clear water with a load I use my trim alot. Trim down as you get on the gas and trim up as your getting on top helps step a load much faster for me. Yiu may need to trim just because your load shift some. Get the trim and you will thank yourself now. Save awhile longer and get a 36 w/HT.

Just put the power trim unit on the pd. it's amazing how much more it will get down in the mud versus the wheel. Even goes up a lot further.
