well my buddy just picked up a used 23 mini that was having some minor problems when we got it....well we got it home took her around the lake afew times and she was back fiering alittle...we took it home cleand the carb got new gass replaced fuel lines and filter... took her back to the lake and ran her a little more same backfireing isue and now when u go to turn it off it diesals for afew seconds so we got to thinking it was the coils so we called brigs and had them send us some new ones...well we took the old ones off and put the new ones on gapping them with a bussiness card put the spark plug in and tested it no spark( if holding the plug next to the motor) but if u happen to touch the end of the wire whear the plug would go in at u will get shocked....wev bin playing with this mottor afew days now and havent bin able to figure it out so its time to ask the gurus cody wear ya at bud |

Disconnnect the kill circuit (black) wire from the coils and see if it gets fire. |

That tells you that the coils are working, and something is killing them, so it's time to trouble shoot why. Here's all I can think of: 1) pinched wire, grounding out on the motor frame...........disconnect, the other wires that are attached to the stud that goes thru the blower housing, and hook it back up to the coils to see if you still have spark. 2) If that works, then hook up each wire back on the stud one at a time and see which one is killing the coils. Which leaves a bad key switch, bad kill switch, or bad low oil sensor (if you motor is equipped with one) or you left the lanyard off the kill switch. |
