Post 07 36HP PD choke cable question....
I just noticed today while getting it ready for big duck season that my choke cable plastic coating is melted. It got hot in the last couple times out because it wasn't like that. I got stuck in the mud last week and really had to work it back and forth at RPM's to get unstuck. Could that have done this? I'm confused but it still works.

Here is pictures:

Thanks.

Holy crap, it looks like a burnt up electric wire. Did anything short out against it? I've never seen anything like that.

Well I was hoping y'all was going to say...yeah that crap happens all the time. :D

No, no wires against it. Pretty weird because I put 2 hours on it yesterday and it ran fine.

Something had to have caused it to become charged and it burnt. It's not only melted over the exhaust, it's melted all the way up the handle, with the exception of where it's zip tied to the handle, the handle could have absorbed the heat right there, but it didn't melt the zip tie. If it got hot enough to melt it that far up, it would have melted every wire on the motor as well, and you would have felt it on your hand, hell your handle would have to have been hot too. I think you had an electrical problem, somehow juice had to go through that cable.

maybe some wires are touching the cable inside your control box?

Okay...now y'all got me thinking.

The choke doesn't run into the control box it is on the lower right but now that you mention the control box. I bought the boat in April/May and didn't use it much until right before teal season. Saturday morning it rained like a sun of a biotch and I was showing a buddy how to run it and he asked what the momentary clutch engauge button was for and I pushed it and then when I let go of it the clutch didn't disengauge it keep spinning for 30 seconds or so. I bet it has something to do with that...I rarely use that feature anyway but now I have somewhere to look.

Thanks! I'll check that out.

Judd

PS - sorry, not gas that I can tell.

Okay...I went out and took the cover off the control box and nothing is fried. It is late so I couldn't start it but when I take it to storage in the morning I'll fire it up and see what is going on. I also took off the cover to the air cleaner and it wasn't melted and looked great.

Very weird because the wiring harness is wrapped and zip tied to the stalk too and it didn't have any damage. I can't find anything touching it and I can't find anything else burnt. I'll let y'all know what happens tomorrow morning after I fire it up and get to work.

Thanks again for y'alls help I appreciate it!
