This may be a dumb question but here it is. I bought a new 27 hp kohler off line is there a difference between that and a mud motor specific 27 hp motor. I am running a 1536 fisher 27 mud buddy LT I did cut the transome down to 16in. I can only get 15mph out of it with just me in the boat 270 lbs. From what I have read I should be getting around 20mph. Prop looks good.

What size prop are you running? Is it worn out? It may look good but will be shot.

No, there is no difference.

What are your RPM's?
Do you know exactly what prop you have and what it measures?

3600 rpm don't know what the prop is it is measures 8 3/4

Its close to being shot, get you a new 9x6

What are your max Out of water RPM's?
They should be about 4300 and In water should be 37-3900
