hey guys im new hear and am looking into building a boat on a dollar. anyways i can get a boat no problem but ive been looking into motors and came across the mud motors like mud bug and pro drive and fell in love. i could for sure use one around the small creeks i go up when water is down i cant make it and there are some ponds that are seperated from the rivers by a layer of thin water/mud id love to fish them and sent a blind on them we just cant get to them with my girl friends dads outboard. so ive decided for my boat build i really want a surface drive motor. only problem is i dont have 6 grand to drop on a new one or 3500 on a used one. ive seen a few go devils on the sight for 1500 which is where i would wanna stay around. or i could also build my own. i have no problem welding or fabricating. im just wondering what the better option would be. thanks yall!

I built a surface drive and after almost a year, I'm still working the bugs out. It will push my 1648 mod-v around 23mph with me, fuel and two batteries but I don't have power tilt trim. I have about 2500 in it so far and most of my aluminum came from a scrap yard.

I'm new to these beast myself .. I look for 4 months before buying a used copperhead 12 and was very impressedwith what it can do ! It's worth it ! I'll never have another outboard ! Craigslist ! You may get a better deal buying a whole rig .. sell boat if u don't need it .. I want more power but I'm happy for now . 1648 boat gettin 18 mph ... These motors are fun to drive .. but there's a learning curve ! Good luck

thanks yall im really leaning toward buying a used go devil i can find them for around 1500 and they have 23hp. im thinking something already built then i go go from there. and its guna be on a 14 or 15 foot boat. i found a really nice boat for 400 but its riveted and not welded so i really dont know if i wanna get it
