Post Hope this works
Just got a mod kit from Cody at SETX for my 35GTR and had it installed locally here in Anchorage. Carb, Custom Heads, Exhaust, Push Rods, Roller Rockers. With stock my boat did fine, about 25mph when running a fishing load (1-2 people and tackle, lunch, 20 gal gas) but not so (about 16mph) when on a hunting load (2 people, gear for a week, 50 gal gas). Here is the test. I am getting ready to embark on 1400 mile river moose hunting trip (550 each way plus running around at the hunting area). I suspect total load will be 1 person + 70 gallons gas + gear + moose (if lucky). Plan to give some meat away to frends in the local area on the way back so load should be around 1200# - 1300# with about a 5mph current. Any ideas on what the performance might be? Unfortunately, I didn't get to test the motor prior to the trip (part of adventure, I guess). Will update with actuals when I get back, just looking for anyone who has similar boat and motor with mods carrying similar loads.

Your load carrying should come up a pretty good bit, but the stuff your hauling is a good load. Will be a good test we'd like to hear about.

20 x 60 is a long, big boat, but with those mods you'll be haulin that moose at about 21mph all day long.

Very much looking forward to the trip, planning about 15 days. Should be lots of photo ops. Hopefully all good, looking for the 70" Moose. Will post performance upon return. Not really an engine type so probably adventurous for first outing on the mod but circumstances and timing dictated the plan. Keeping very positive thoughts and trying to think of anything I might need to take.

Actually 21 upriver would be great. That would be about 31 down river on a 5mph current. Can cut down on gas load some and get it in the villages, just expensive. BTW. The tides can be about 20' high to low on the coast but rivers in this area not affected. Rain can swell rivers some but usually cool weather slows the glacial melt and causes them to drop. Can drop a couple feet over the course of a week, which can cause an issue if the river is only a couple feet deep. :|

What a nice trip. You going alone? If so, what a challenge!!!! Man against nature at its best. Make sure to document this well and post up pictures and vid here.

Did you have your boat for sale recently before mods? I don't see many GTRs around southcentral AK, mostly mud buddys and go-devils. There was a guy selling one on a custom hull a while ago..

Your going on a 15 day moose hunting trip with a motor you didn't even test yet??? You at least let the thing run for a few hours in the driveway right? I don't even leave my house to go to the local lake without starting it up and running it for a few minutes to make sure everything is good to go. If I was to embark on a journey like that I would have an extensive tool kit.

Good luck on the moose hunt. I embark on my Ontario Archery Moose Journey in 14 Days. I will be flown in unguided and left at a cabin for two weeks during the rut. It should make for an interesting time. I love moose hunting. What a rush. Everyone should try it.

Thanks for all the good lucks. Looking forward to the hunt and yes, I agree, everyone should go moose hunting at least once. The fly in hunt sounds great, I have done that as well. Only advise there is if you see a moose and your more than 50 yards from the landing strip shoot pictures and keep calling. I was not the person who had my boat for sale in Anchorage. I am the person who wanted the heads for low grade fuel. Not going on the trip alone, have a friend with another boat but still should be fun. Wish I had time to run the motor more but it is what it is. I ran it for about an hour in the driveway and ran up the RPMs some just to make sure all the systems were working. Man it sounds great. Nice low rumble with the Marsmellow Exhaust and seems to be a lot less vibration i the motor. I have the Alaska tool kit: Leatherman, Duct Tape. Any suggestions on other stuff to bring?? :D

50hptiller,
Sounds like a good list thanks. Appreciate the help. The river current might be 5mph but not really wanting a float trip.
