 Rev limiter?????
So my old revlimiter got wet because my boat almost sank so I had to replace it. I got a new one from mudbuddy and hooked it up and the motor would not start. If I clip the green wire it will instantly start. I was told that it was just a bad limiter so I sent it back for a new one. Well I have a new one now and it is doing the exact same thing. Black wire grounded on starter, green connecting into other green wire, and red on the clutch circuit breaker. Im stumped and I also hate electrical things so it is frustrating me. Any help would be appreciated.

 Re: Rev limiter?????
You may not have a rev limiter problem, check all your wires and where they connect and make sure there is no corrosion and they are still attached, make sure you have a good ground

 Re: Rev limiter?????
Like he said
Sounds like bad connection or something is grounding out.

 Re: Rev limiter?????
Try moving the red wire to a different hot. It needs power even when in the "start" position

 Re: Rev limiter?????
So Im still stumped. I moved it to a different ground and different hots. There is a white wire that was hidden in the insulation and not sticking out. Is that wire for anything. Also what does the green wire do? Seems like it is the one causing me issues.

 Re: Rev limiter?????
Green wire is what goes too your coil wire. Its possible you got another bad one, but its rare but possible

 Re: Rev limiter?????
If you hooked it up the same way as your last one and its doing the same thing, and when you unhooked the green wire it runs fine..... it can be one of two things, either they sent a bad box OR you got something going on with your ground and with your positive, and if its the ground positive thing, hook the hot to the hot side of your battery and the ground to the ground side of your battery, hook the green wires up and try to start it, if it still messes up then its for sure the box. Cause then you know you have a good ground and positive and its not either one of those.

 Re: Rev limiter?????
When you say the motor will not start does that mean it'll turn over and won't fire off or it won't do nothing at all when you hook it up like its suppose to be

 Re: Rev limiter?????
Use a volt meter to find a hot that's dead when key is off, hot when key is on or in start position and hook your red wire to it. Then ground it to the block.

 Re: Rev limiter?????
That wouldn't explain the ticking in the rev box would it?

 Re: Rev limiter?????
The box clicks when it powers on, but shouldn't continuously click.

 Re: Rev limiter?????
camo's right on the wiring. power to box with key on. barroll there are plenty of rev limiters out there. that have adjustable rpms as cheap as $50.00 to 130.00 dollars. that have lighted tachs - hour meter. adjustable in 250 rpm increments. and have ranges from 2500 rpm to 7000 rpm. have soft or hard cut-out. and high rpm recall. the way to go if future mods are in the future. the ones that i've seen from out west are soft cut-out. and can range wildly from what they claim as a rpm cutoff. they also have two stage limiters. u just don't wire in the first stage. that go for cheap

 Re: Rev limiter?????
The box only clicks when it gets power one time.
Richard. Where can I find one of these? will they work for this application?

 Re: Rev limiter?????
Mine hasn't run right since I installed last year. No spark or fuel pump in start positing. Starts only in run position. I'm disconnecting it tomorrow and gonna let 'er run wild.

 Re: Rev limiter?????
YOu can run without it you just got to be real careful with a stock internal motor cause it won't take high RPMS very well if you hit something and the motor kicks up. With my motor i have a little more room for high RPMS but not much when i run shallows i don't run it WO. But in deep water i let her eat

 Re: Rev limiter?????
Ive been running without a limiter all summer. I just hold the tiller so when i hit something it just knocks it out of my hand instead of trying to grab it harder and squeezing the throttle even more. But I havnt had a problem. I just wont be able to let other ppl drive this year unless I can get it fixed
