 Gutting a Stock PD Exhaust
I Just finished removing the baffles out of a stock PD exhaust. It involved cutting off both end caps, and a lot of grinding on the tack welds. I also replaced the stock outlet with a larger one. I used a piece of 2" sch 10 304 stainless pipe that I got off online metals. I tigged it all back together with 3/32" 309 tig wire.
Still awaiting a test run to hear what it sounds like.

Re: Gutting a Stock PD Exhaust
I Tig Welded mine. I think the muffler is of low grade stainless. As long as your mig welder has good heat control it should be fine. If you tig weld it I wouldn't bother purging the back side because of the exhaust carbon it will "sugar" anyways.

Re: Gutting a Stock PD Exhaust
I agree. I was told it was stainless, and my magnetic level stuck to it. The muffler could be stainless with higher carbon levels than nickel. But More than likely just carbon steel.
It is a little disappointing to hear yours wasn't louder and that you lost rpms. I had heard that this is the way to go to imporve flow and performance.
