 fuel issues
i have a 36 pdfpr. launched just the other day n went fishing. ran the boat for at least three or four hours and it ran great . on the way back to the launch the motor started to "bog down " and run like sh!t. pumped da ball a couple of times and it would smooth out for a couple of minutes and go back to running bad. i dunno if the motor is sucking in air from the line or if i might have water in my tank??? what yall experts think.

 Re: fuel issues
Sounds like your gettin air in your fuel line. Look over it real good and replace if you like. Also, some people have found da need for fuel pumps. Your not the first wit dis issue I'm sure someone who has been though it will chime in and tell you what worked for them.

 Re: fuel issues
i checked the line and cannot find any leaks.. i do have dat b/s qick connect on my tank. might do away with that. u mentioned a feul pump.. would that be because of the length of the hose??

 Re: fuel issues
If dis problem didn't start until da hotter part of da day then I would guess vapor lock. Try a fuel pump.

 Re: fuel issues
Look at your clear in-line fuel filter while running and see if it is bubbling. This is probably not a sure fire way to diagnose your problem but if you do have air bubbles in the filter, then you have an air leak somewhere. Could be a fitting, a pinhole leak or the bulb. I have had issues with some bulbs going bad real fast but they are fairly cheap. If you have one, I would probably replace that first before going the fuel pump route.
One way to narrow down the problem is to buy about 5-6 feet of fuel line, hook up one side to the filter (or as close to the carb/stock pump as possible) and stick the other end directly in the tank. If it runs fine, then your problem is probably in your line somewhere. If not, then you have eliminated everything up to that point as a problem
I would make sure everything else is good before adding another pump. I believe it was Stumpgrinder who said that an extra fuel pump was just a band aid for the problem and doesn't fix the underlying cause. If everything else is good and it is eventually narrowed down to vapor lock, then it might be necessary.
What size fuel line are you running and do you have a fuel/water separator?

 Re: fuel issues
I had the same problem. Brought it to Pro Drive and they put an electric fuel pump and I never had that problem again.

 Re: fuel issues
Same as mine. I would run down the river for a good while and everything was fine, on the way back it would sputter and I could only get up to about 2400 rpm's. I thougt it was water in the fuel so I put the water seperator and had no luck. Once the electric fuel pump was added I ain't never had that problem again.

 Re: fuel issues
I agree. The fuel pump should not be done until your sure you need it. It is fairly cheap and easy to replace fuel lines, fitting, bulbs, and filters. I was just letting you know there have been a few who needed a fuel pump.

 Re: fuel issues
Mine used to do it also, but it hasn't happened in over a year. The only thing I think I have changed in that time period was the bulb. Did you try it without the quick connects?

 Re: fuel issues
been thru all this before. if it's not a air leak it is vaporlock from bad engineering.
a elec fuel pump will stop it but i hate elec fuel pumps, so i did one better.
BLOCK OFF THE STOCK FUEL PUMP AND GET THE VACUME FUEL PUMP FROM BRIGGS DAT MOUNTS ON THE VALVE COVER W/BRUSHGUARD. i beleive it's the same setup the 23 brigs has.
no wires to run, no down side.
fixed mine, and i run 25' of 1/4" fuel line.
btw, throw dat quick connect away.

 Re: fuel issues
My 36 did it out the box only when it got up to the 3900rpm range. I have an online built in large tank. When I watched bart install the engine and he cut my orignal fuel line on the install gas freely poured from my lines. I knew I did not have any fuel delivery issues.
I had asked the dealer about it and he gave me the pump just in case. He was surpised that I needed it. Since its a Briggs issue they should just give you da' pump as standard equipment.

 Re: fuel issues
SB I was having the same issue with my engine when it was new. I had the stock inline fuel filter with 1/4 hose all the way to the tank. The engine would run fine at idle. WOT it would act like someone would just turn the key off. I added a priming bulb to it to try to keep the inline filter full of fuel it would just suck the bulb flat. Since then i have added a small racore fuel filter to it and a electric fuel pump. Removed the priming bulb and haven't had any fuel trouble since then. Get the e-pump its very easy to install. Side note: if you call PD and tell them whats going on they will probably give you one...

 Re: fuel issues
motor is getting checked out by a personal friend that sells and works on briggs.. he told me to him it sounds like a coil is overheating n losing fire which would explain the loss of power after long durations of running. he also told me that briggs has been having alot of trouble with there coils. he should be troubleshooting today and letting me know something tomorrow ill keep yall posted
