Post subject:  36 PD Rev Limiter Wiring

I have installed my EVT Mikuni Carb and intake and every thing seemed to be going fine until I wired up the rev limiter. Motor idles and runs well with the rev limiter installed but it doesn't limit the f'in revs. I have the box mounted to the transom with the box wires connected as follows:

Green - Connected to the black wire coming out of the 8-Way plug with a 3 way connector. The black wire then runs to its origional connection point.

Black - Runs straight from the box and is grounded to the motor.

Red - Connected directly to the grey wire coming out of the 8-Way plug. Rest of the grey wire connects to nothing.

Motor runs with no trouble. I have the yellow chip (Supposed to be 4350). Do I have it wired wrong or do I have the wrong chip?

Thanks in advance foer any input.

where do ur rpms stop.... if they do at all?

all da rev limiter chips are yella... measure resistance with an ohm meter across da 2 prongs of da chip and we can tell ya what ur max rpm's should be.

I thought I remembered red connecting to a purple wire..... but I slept since then, and I ain't near my rig to check it. maybe someone else can post up da wiring scheme. I know RC had a good post with pics.... but it may have been on da old forum... try searchin it.

good luck!

Thanks stump,

I looked at rc's post on the old forum and I think I've got it wired wrong. Its hard to tell though because depending on when your motor and rev limiter are built the wire colors seem to differ. I'm gonna give it another shot when I get off the rig.

I did rev it up to about 5k for a brief second just to check to see if I had the next chip up. No good.
