Post subject:  Fuel line configuration
Just bought a used 2010 36hp PD (CID engine). I'm having an 18' custom boat built. I will have the gas tank located under the front deck. Plan on running 5/16 fuel line to a quicksilver primer bulb, then a fuel/water seperator, then shut off valve, then motor. Is everybody ok with this set up? Think i'll need an electric fuel pump? Any opinion on which side of the filter the bulb should be on? Replacing little factory filter with shut off valve so I can run the fuel out. Figured the the fuel/water seperator the factory filter would be redundant. Thanks

Pretty sure you are going to want to keep that little filter in there. It filters trash out. The separator might catch some trash but not a lot. I'm not sure about and electric pump because I do not have on on my GDSD and mine runs just fine.

I went from tank to bulb then water separator, E pump, and a in line filter on engine ( by two of these there cheep insurance but break sometimes so I carry a spare ) then to motor.

If your tank is up front I would do this:

Tank>water separator>bulb>inline fuel filter>motor

I'd want the water separator as close to the tank as possible (think cold days, you want to keep the water out of all the line you can so it won't freeze).

I'd want the bulb back near the motor for convenience. Use 5/16" line for the long run back to the motor, then condense it down to 1/4" with the fuel filter. I don't think you'll need an extra fuel pump, the motor should do just fine.

One of the reasons I put the bulb before the water separator is it makes it easy to prime a new filter when you spin it on. Just my .2

Not sure where you run but you may be over thinking it a bit. You can put the motor on the boat and see how it runs with line to the fuel filter in front of the pump. If you need to add all the other stuff then you can add it later (you may not). Many motors don't need a primer bulb and the shut off may allow you to run most of the fuel out but if you are letting it sit you may just use an additive to the tank.
