Guys, I am new to this forum but I am looking for some answers to my PD issues. I just bought this motor from a guy that hasnt ran it in a while (i.e. 60 hours). He said when I bought it that on the boat under a load, if you go from idle to WTFO, it will choke itself out and die. Thats not the problem I am addressing since I do not have it on the boat yet, but the problem I do have is that when I hooked the gas tank up to it on a stand it will run for 5 minutes then die. The tank is 4' below the motor with straight fittings on the fuel lines and clamps. It has a primer bulb inline, and inline filter. I replaced the fuel pump with another stock one, and it still does the same crap. What now?? Like I said, I have all the good fittings on it and the tank vent is open. I also will mention that when I have the tank sitting level with the motor, it runs flawless. Any ideas are needed and appreciated!!!

Weak fuel pump.

Try taking the primer bulb off and running it without one. There is normally a check valve in the primer bulb which stops fuel from flowing back to the tank. Maybe at 4' below the fuel pump doesn't have enough suction to pull the check open to allow fuel to flow to the engine. Good luck

When you put the motor on a boat, the fuel tank will not be any more than 2 feet below the motor. You may want to move the tank.
