New to mud motors so here I go I have a 36 prodrive on an 1844 gatortrax runs 23 with A couple people was wondering what mods I could do to get a little more speed from the engine or is this about right for this set up?? |

Give us some specifics in what you have. How many RPM's are you turning? What year? What else you carrying in the boat? How is your prop? I would think you should be getting a little more speed than that. Maybe not much more...25-26 maybe? Sent using Morse Code from my not so smart phone. |

PD's perform much better with tapered chines instead of rolled chines. |

i would think the boats pushing alot of water..prodrives are heavy 330 i think so with the boat being only 44" and being a round chine which squats more you have alot working against you with that hull gonna take some mods or a hull change to get speeds up id think..have you checked the prop |

Custom hull, or prodrive hull would be best bet If you were gonna buy one. Check the sponsors on here, plenty of places to get parts, boat dr, Calen, etc |

I have the new 36 EFI with the Illowa Heads and Marhmellow muffler. 19X60 Phowler. Four guys and ran 27 mph, three guys 28 in the deep channel. The hull is the key to these motors. |

Paul has someone that he works with in Clinton that works on the heads from what I understand. I have owned two mud buddy's. The last one was Hyper Sport with Iron mountain heads, push rods, roller rockers, mikuni and straight pipes. I will say that was a great motor and with the exception of the shitty trim on the motor, it was a great package. I ran a couple Beaver tails, but I can't say I have ran one lately, but I do liken it to the mud buddy. I will say that this pro drive rig that we have is the closes to an out board as far as a hole shot loaded. Maybe the three blade and new gears in lower unit are just the ticket, but the EFI response certainly helps it as well. Comparing to all others, the price tag is very comparable, be it extremely high for a lawn mower engine, it is very fair. |

Well, that one went straight over your head!  "Have you ever owned a Gatortail" was meant to imply your speed numbers seem a bit exaggerated. LOL. I think it should be man law that if you post speeds on here, there should be an accompanying video of boat, load, conditions and GPS to back it up. Hey guys. I’m wondering if this thread might be active still. I’m running a Phowler Extreme MV 1856 with a stock PD 36 on it. (2013 model). Lately my speed has been terrible. Last week I had myself and 2 others, dog, decoys and stuff and was barely able to muster 15 mph. Does that sound about right?! I can’t imagine it is reading through some of these posts. I would love some suggestions and help. |

How many hours. I run a Phowler 1860. With about the same load I could do about 18 stock but lost speed continuously up to about 50 hrs. Prodrive did a warranty shave on the heads to put them back flat. Ran like a top after that. But later went with their E5. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have 61 hours on mine. Haven't really put a lot of hours on it. When I'm by myself I can usually run about 23. That's been my max. Just seems like later it's been running worse and worse. I've been running 93 octane no ethanol lately because I had some issues with the carb in early season. I just don't understand it. But whenever I put a load in it, it seems just like it dies off like crazy. Feel sometimes like i'm just dragging anchors. |

What your describing is exactly what mine was doing. By the way it’s a 2013 gen lll efi. Low 20’s by myself and mid to low teens loaded. I bet getting the heads worked would make a world of difference. I just called Prodrive and told them what was happening but that was when the motor was just a little over a year old. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but if you get heads worked use your heads or make sure the ones you buy are seasoned with at least 50 hrs. Other wise you will end up back in the same boat. Thanks guys. I had a call in to Paul @ Phowler, as that's where I bought my boat, but I'll also call Prodrive to see what their thoughts are. I do have a new prop in the boat, I keep as a spare. I thought about trying it out to see what it did but wasn't sure. |

I spoke with one of the guys at Pro-Drive just now. He suggested checking my prop first, and gave me the measurements on it. Then he suggested like was stated shaving the heads. Told me I can pull them off, send them down and for roughly 2 hours of work and a $65 gasket kit have them back and be rolling. We're winding up for the year this week, so I'll probably try to do that pretty soon and see what I can get from it. |

So I had a brand new 3 blade prop at the house and swapped it out the other night and took it for a run. 9dz decoys, 3 layout blinds, gear, dog and 3 guys. 12mph with it all in there running deep water. So no real help from the prop. Mine was looked at in December by a buddy and he said mine really doesn’t show any wear at all. So I’m guessing I’m back to a stage 1? |

4000 rpms but that slow means the prop is toast. If you trim down and it doesn't have the umph, but it used to, then you need to get the valves done. If it never had enough, then mods are necessary for your intended loads. That's the jist of the path you should take. #CFFITR #TheGhostBoat #whoneedsphysicsihaveamudmotor |

So I was running e3 spark plugs since last year. I changed those out last night and ran it this morning. With 12 gallons of gas me and my dog, I was getting 21-22. I still think that’s pretty slow for a stock 36 on an 1856 Phowler. |

The gen 3 is garbage! My 14 started life as a gen 3 and after a year and a half of disappointment I pulled the pin and installed a gen 4 lower. Theirs a reason Pro-Drive stopped making it. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

I’ve thought about swapping my gen 3 for a gen 4 also. But I wonder if it will still push the same load. Prodrive told me the lower ($1500)plus prop ($270) and then shipping. That’s all over $2000. That’s getting pretty pricey. I wouldn’t buy there prop anyway. There’s some guy named Craig that’s building hex shafts. Get one of them made and then have tons of prop choices.
