 MB 35 problems
COuple questions: I think my battery charger is dead. I get just 12 volts and when I pull the cable the motor dies. Is there a better aftermarket one to buy? and how easy is it to put on?
Also, how do you trailer your motor? Ive broken a couple trim locks because of it bouncing down the road. Ive wedged rubber and strapped it in place and nothing works. Any ideas?

 Re: MB 35 problems
When you say battery charger, are you meaning your voltage regulator on the motor? If its a stock 35 there is an anti-backfire solenoid on the carb that will cut the fuel if there is no power. You have to check it over 2000 RPM though. ========= On a 35, the charge circuit starts to charge about 2000 RPM and increases as you raise the RPM's up to about 3200 and then its a constant 14.2-14.6 volts at 20 amps. Just check with a voltmeter at the battery with someone controlling the throttle. If you are not seeing the voltage at the battery your voltage regulator may not be functioning. If you suspect the regulator, check the red wire at the voltage regulator with your voltmeter set on DC. You need 12+ volts DC, if no voltage is present at the red wire it will not charge your battery . Normal voltage at the battery after 10 min run time @3600 rpm should to be ~12.75 + volts DC.
Note that if you ever accidentally hook your battery cables up in reverse polarity you have a good chance of killing the voltage regulator.
Other things to check:
Unplug the voltage regulator at the 3 wire plug to check the stator. With a volt meter set on AC volts across the 2 yellow wires coming out of the stator you need 32 + volts @ 3600 rpm. If there is no voltage there, your stator may be bad.
Note: The new CDI motors with 50 Amp charging circuit have different specs than above. =========
I use the travel lock on the frame. Engage the lock and then trim down on it so there's pressure on the lock so it doesn't bounce. If I am on especially bad roads or trailering a long way, I put a ratchet strap on the skeg to the transom straps at the trailer.
You will get alot of product specific info on the MB forum.
