Post subject:  Longer rods and shaved pistons

Been trying to find out how much longer c-rods to get and how much to shave off the pistons, i.e. what are BPS or PVT rod length and pistons shaved? I have searched and cant seem to locate it. BPS wants $150 a piston, I can get oem .020 over for less than one. If say the rods are .120 longer, and the pistons are shaved .070, is this like decking your heads .050 compression wise? Just trying to get a better grasp on the whole concept. Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.

BPS and PVT rod length is .120 over that of stock.

The stock pistons are shaved either .090 or .110...I can't recall right this second.

Maybe someone can tell you what compression #'s they had on a .050 decked heads. I had a motor with stock heads with pvt c-rods & pistons & compression was around 180lbs. (This motor had a cam too)

If you call PVT he will tell you that each and every block is different which is true, he will tell you to start .075 taking of the piston and go from there. It all depends how muck you want the top of the piston in the hole.

I will have to get some numbers. I was planning on doing all the internals, balancing the pistons, rods, and crank. Port and polish the heads and see where I am before decking the heads. From what I have seen on here the decking is minimal.

I will be getting a lot of help on this, my buddy is a product development mechanic for GM, he builds and rebuilds the new vettes and I know a Roush Racing machinist that's going to help. Getting all the parts together now. I am just trying to get the info on what I need. I really appreciate your help.

What about .120 longer rods, Flat top JE pistons with low friction rings, 0 deck height when oiled?
