Anyone know where I can find aftermarket governor springs for my 36pd? I remember seeing someone with different sizes. Thanks |

I'm running the 23 Briggs spring (black color code) adjusted to 4400 out of water. No issues as of yet. |

There are several springs you can get from Briggs but the Purple one is rated for about 4000RPM. The Red and Green ones are rated for lower RPM so don't bother with them. If you want to run higher RPM then you can go with some others. Going higher RPM you can use more travel (longer spring) so it doesn't pull the idle up when you crank down on the govenor adjustment. There is a Gold spring whose length is between the purple one and the large Olive one in the picture. My 35 came with a Purple one but I have a Gold one from another 35- go figure. The long olive one in the picture is what MB uses for their 45, I run one of these at 4500RPM. You can probably get one of the MB 45 springs from the Boat Dr 504-737-1203- he does alot of carb kits on the MBs and may have some just laying around. Hope that helps. |

Some parts numbers for these springs would sure help. All I seem to be able to get from my dealer is the standard old silver spring for my 23. ... or a location where to find them ![]() |

I talked to Hank at the Boat Dr. and he gave me a lot of good advice. Turns out the 45 MB governer spring may be the same as the 36 PD. I'm waiting on one that I got online from the Briggs Engine Outlet. KP at PD gave me part #842614 for the stock spring that looks like the biggest silver one in Deadbirds picture. |

Well, now I'm not sure but the spring that just arrived is painted half red and looks like the red spring in Deadbirds pic. The one I had on the motor and I thought was arriving looks like the no color far right spring. Dunno ![]() |

Here is a pic with the Gold spring i mentioned for comparison. Briggs parts and descriptions are pretty frustrating- worst is tryin to get different sized jets for the stock carb! |

The blackmarked 23 van spring I am running is similar to the shorter colored springs that deadbird8 posted, it has more tension than the longer 35/36/45 spring which is what came stock on my motor. With the increased tension and shorter length it helped lessen the pull down effect of the governor when bogging the motor down and during acceleration on my 36. |

I wound up using the stock and a purple spring twisted together on my 23 GDLT. I am turning 4150 RPM out of the water, up from the 3600 I had before. Idle is around 1000 RPM. Can't put it overboard till Sunday to get an in-the-water reading. Is 4150 RPM too much for a 23 Vanguard? |

I finally got the stainless steel colored spring that MB used for there 45's. It's the same one that was used to mod my 36. When the weather gets better I'll giver a try. |

Finally got that 4500 RPM spring on and what a difference it made. 4500-4600 WOT with prop turning out of the water and 1000-1100 at idle. Hopefully it'll work out when I get in the water. |
