 HD5000 vs Prodrive 36 mounting
The rig I just purchased had a 36 prodrive previously mounted on in. Im getting ready to pick up a HD5000 and was wondering if these have standard outboard mounting patterns for the transom? As it is there is 6 holes already in this transom (I have no idea what the previous owner was doing) and I don't want it to end up lookin like swiss cheese. Debating on what the best method would be to seal transom with extra holes if the holes are beneath the engines mount plate. If they are external I can just run an extra bolt and some 5700 to seal.

Re: HD5000 vs Prodrive 36 mounting
see im not worried if the existing hole is outside of the mounting plate... its the ones inside it that bother me, you cant put a bolt thru then, just fill the damn thing with 5700? or Weld on a backing plate?

Re: HD5000 vs Prodrive 36 mounting
NONE of the mudmotor manufacturers use the same mounting holes. So get preparede to do some drilling. MB does use the same bolt pattern as the small hp outboards (25-60 hp), but they only use the top 2 holes.
If the holes bother you that much, get a couple peices of aluminum plate cut to fit inbetween the motor and the transom on the outside, and a piece just big enough to cover the channel on the inside, and silicone (or 5200) them in place before installing the new motor.

Why do you need to add 4 more holes to mount the motor?

Re: HD5000 vs Prodrive 36 mounting
Just wondering. I've only ever had to put 2 holes in a transom to mount either a ProDrive, or Gatortail.

Re: HD5000 vs Prodrive 36 mounting
Cut some aluminum round rod the width of the transom, slide them in the holes, and weld the ends then grind smooth.
