After some failure analysis Hoyt and I think we know what did the damage. Whos wants to guess?

It was not a drop valve.

From the pics, looks like your block made it. Did it?

Post subject:  Re: KABOOM PICS

Looks like the engine was running lean on that cylinder if you ask me. A lean running cylinder will cause early detonation which in turn will cause that cylinder to overheat which will then go kaboom. ;)

Don't ask me how I know this.

Post subject:  Re: KABOOM PICS

The rod broke the cam. Cam was broke in two spots not one.

Looks like it was the hole in the carb boot sucking in un metered air. Both the cylinders had hot spots and both spark plugs were white. The number two cylinder always runs leaner that the other "which is the on that failed". It looks like the number two side got way to hot, siezed the piston, pulled the wrist pin out the piston and went to work. Thats why it locked up as fast as it did. As Hoyt stated " A 20lb flrwheel has alot of force when its turning 4 grand".

Post subject:  Re: KABOOM PICS

wrist pins in one piece as well as the top pin hole on the connecting rod

looking at whats left of the piston and seeing that the connecting rod pushed though it. looks like piston failure?

Dude that sucks. Hard to believe something that small could cause something that major. If the leak in the carb boot caused it.
