If you are thinking about internal mods!
Just find the biggest meanest sob you can and give him 50 bucks to kick you in the balls! It will be less painful and cheaper than fooling with cams, pistons, roller rockers, and rods.
I bought this rig last spring and missed last years opener, and now this years also because of stage 3 mods.
This is my 3rd rebuild.
If stage 1 won't do it go with duel 23's or 27's ( It will be cheaper in the long run, and last forever if left stock.) If you want to go fast build a lighter boat. If you want a hot rod have at it but don't do it to your hunting rig, this is the second opening week I have missed in two years because of stage 3 mods. I haven't talked to any one with a stage 3 that has gone 100 hrs with out gaskets leaking, blown head gaskets, or engines coming apart.
Its not just the cost of the motor and parts, I got 2 grand in leases, a 1500 boat hoist on the water ,and hunting buddies who help pay their share who are stuck home to.

Re: If you are thinking about internal mods!
stage 3 involves rods pistons and cam's roller rockers, If you did not do a cam or piston s you will most likely be ok. keep your rpm down to 4300.

Ditto - run stock - run long and strong....
Guys should spend more on props and hull matching....

Re: If you are thinking about internal mods!
Any complications with people just doing some intake work and heads and leaving all other components stock? Just helping airflow is what I'm getting at...

Re: If you are thinking about internal mods!
right now my engine has .055 decked heads ported and pollished with stainless valves using stock springs shimmed with EVT roller rockers and push rods, stock intake that has been ported and pollished using stock carb. considering the fact that my wheel is around 11 7/8 I'm turning 4500 at 30 MPH, if I had a fresh wheel or a stage 1 wheel I should see better numbers.

Re: If you are thinking about internal mods!
JD sorry to hear that, that really sucks.
WestEndAngler pull the haeds off and send them to EVT for stage 1 work. They will deck them 30 thousands and shim the valves. When you get them back ya just bolt them up.

Re: If you are thinking about internal mods!
I'd rather send them to coondik for stage 1 head work. His machine shop does a better job. No offense to EVT but they need to step up on quality control. I bought rick aucoin's stage 3 heads last week and brough them to coondik. He took one look at them and said their is no way in hell i'd put these on an engine!!! the face of the heads were decked uneven and had tool marks all over them, and the valve seats weren't tri-angle. He sent them to his machine shop and had the faces trued up and recut the valve seats b/c 3 out of the 4 were leaking!!!!! So their head work is well under par!!!!! IMO

Re: If you are thinking about internal mods!
Nothing against EVT I have never done business with them so I can't speak about anything. I'm sure they are great. But with me even being only 30 min drive to their shop I'm more than likely going to send them somewhere else in the event I do get any work done.

Re: If you are thinking about internal mods!
Go with whoever you are comfortable with. I went with EVT and they did great work on my Stage 1 setup. My point was the valve shims will be done and you wont have to do it yourself, thats all.

Re: If you are thinking about internal mods!
You can take your heads to any head shop and have them done for a fraction of the price someone is going to charge you.
