36 HP vanguard shaving heads ?
Has any one had problems after shaving there heads .050 on a 36 HP big block vanguard ? Like detnation or some other type of issues ? Thinking about shaving mine .050 to get some more power out of the engine also will the stock head gasket be fine or will it be best to use a copper head gasket I know copper is better but is it nessary for this type of modification ?

Use stock gasket and you can go .060 you will be 185/190 psi run 93 octane you will be fine as long as you are using stock rods

Shaved .055, stock gaskets, 190 psi on my tester w/ stock pistons and rods running 91 octane non-ethanol unleaded with no issues.

Sorry I know this is an old thread, but how much speed could I pick up by shaving the heads on my 36hp vanguard?

By only decking the heads only you will get a noticably more stronger engine with just a little bit mre top end.

So my motor would perform better with a load and out of the hole? And are there any cheap mods I can do to increase top end speed?

Carb, Heads, and exhaust will wake that puppy up! What goes in needs more space to come out=torque and speed increase!
