Got the exhaust on with no problems. Hopefully this will aid anyone looking at Marsh Mellows Exhaust.

Tools needed: Basic socket set...

Start by removing the old exhaust. Remove the 4 bolts holding the exhaust to the manifold, 12MM socket.

Remove the brackets that are mounted to the engine. The whole stock exhaust assembly should come off easily once the bolts are removed.

Remove the 4 bolts (two on each side of motor) that bolt into the governor. Hold a bracket up for a guide you'll figure out the two bolts on each side to remove. Here's a photo of the new bracket installed on the port side of the engine.

The trick to installing is to take the 2 long bolts (supplied with exhaust) and put them through the bracket. Put two spacers (also supplied) between the governor assembly and the bracket. Between the bracket and the head of the bolt remember to put a lock washer.

The above picture is of the two spacers installed, the bolts through there with lock washers and the small bolt with just a lock washer. The idea is that your compensating for the empty space so that the bracket will sit flush.

The starboard side bracket is a little tricky. First in the top hole grab a lock washer and bolt. Put lock washer on put bolt through bracket. Place a spacer on the back side of the bracket (top hole). On the hole just below that do the same thing however you'll use an extra lock washer to take up the empty space. See this photo.

Here's a picture of the starboard bracket installed:

Both brackets installed:

Install the flanges but leave them somewhat loose so you can get the muffler into them later don't forget to remove the old gaskets and install the new ones.

Go ahead and take the exhaust and place the supports included in the kit on the exhaust take two of the hose clamps around the top support and two on the heat shield support. Snug but not tight so you can adjust it later.

The Heat shield of course on the bottom and the smaller bracket on top. 4 Nuts and bolts in each will secure the supports to the brackets you installed earlier. The hose clamps go through the holes on the bottom of the heat shield and just around the bracket & barrel for the top.

I opted to install the top support to the exhaust first and then I put the heat shield onto the brackets before putting the muffler and whole package together.

Looking at the photos below I notice I put the heat shield hose clamps on wrong... It was getting dark and I got into a hurry. Please note that the hose clamps on the heat shield bracket should come into the bracket from the back and wrap around the muffler and back to the top, not around the bottom of the heat shield as shown below

Leave everything loose so you can get the pipes to match up push in a hard as you can use a 2x4 and tap it in be careful not to "tap" to hard

The exhaust sounds great. I have yet to run it on the water and will post up a performance review tomorrow.

Here's a video of her running in the driveway, it was late sorry bad lighting but you just want the sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL6eTIoA4m0

Sounds quieter & cleaner than my stock exhaust but remember my brackets were broken both sides on my stock exhaust so I had a "ringing" going on for a long time... Hooray for silence!

Oh, after install wipe the whole exhaust and brackets down with a rag with WD40 sprayed all over it. That way it wont spot on you when you get her heated up the first time.

Exhaust performed great this morning! This along with Gecker carb bumped me up to 25 MPH with me and 2 other guys, full hunting gear and 2 dogs. Dumping the gear and running down inter-coastal I hit 28MPH with a friend and my dog. We dumped the gear and ran up the ICW before heading back to launch.

Westend, i hear that "ringing" on mine, but i can't seem to locate what is making it...my brackets all look good, but something is definitely rattling/ringing.

It is probably an inside baffle. You should cut it out or replace before parts of it end up in your valves. http://www.refugeforums.com/refuge/show ... p?t=746288

Thanks for the review Westend.

I have no more ringing... I did notice my brackets for stock exhaust were broken in 4 places on each mount... Also I lost a rivet on one of the brackets...

spin your hose clamps so you dont have to look at the adusters. Put them behind the tubes it will look cleaner! Good job dude!

pasted from carb revue...

Stock Setup:

RPM out of water: 4250
Top Speed: 28 MPH (deep water)
RPM @ Top Speed: ~3900

Gecker Stage II:

RPM out of water: 4250
Top Speed: 29.5 MPH (deep water)
RPM @ Top Speed: ~3890

* * * * * * *

Were RPMs under load similar to before and speed greater ???

Your upgrades seem to be netting better performance without pushing
the motor into higher RPMs....

Possibly sinking a bit more prop now at "sweet spot" ???

Thanks,

Just finished my install and since it came with no instruuctions, I was grateful for your pics and step by step. I am sure I could have figured it out but man was it easy to follow your lead.

Great explanation and pics. I just installed mine on a GDSD 35. My exhaust was a little different though. I had two identical pieces to fit the exhaust tubes to. Plus I had to use two spacers on both sides. Im thinking your exhaust has that bottom bracket a little different to prohibit extra heat from melting your clutch cover. Seriously, thanks for the step by step, it helped!

Sure thing. In the second pic you can see how the mounting bracket differs for the GD. No plate on the bottom. Exhaust looks really clean and sounds great. Plus no more orange rust covered exhaust.

I really need to make some instructions. Thanks West End.

Robin1020, your throttle cable looks really close to the exhaust header. I have mine loosely pull tied to the lifting bracket bolted to the valve cover if you have enough slack. Hope you like it.

It has about an inch to two inches of space between the pipe and cable. I guess from the pics it does look like its touching. Would you suggest moving it out more?

Could not find the directions. But the side with 2 holes goes on the right side (standing behind engine), sandwiched between the engine block and the exhaust bracket. The side with one hole is bolted to the left side exhaust bracket.

Yep, thats how it looked the 2nd time around.....No problem, I put it all back on the 2nd time in LESS than half the time.

But not its now back firing and the neighbors came over with phone in hand. They thought there were gun shots at our house and wanted to check to see first, THANK GOD! Way 2 funny!

Waiting on my heads and carb from Keith. Hope that will help

im about to be getting a boat with dual GTR 35s and i was worried about the noise, did the exhaust help quiet the exhaust down considerably? or is it more of a performance upgrade? and these would be stock motors it would go on.

thanks

Glider,

Is that cross brace required for the GTR35 install? I don't think i saw it up top on WEA install instructions, but just want to double check.

I just purchased a second hand MM and am missing a couple spacers...left a voicemail with MM Exhaust this morning. Your instructions on the website show the use of 4 spacers, but i see up top that WEA only used 3...what do you recommend?
