what type of volts should i be seeing out of a 20 amp regulator at idle ?
I m getting 13.2 at idle 1110 rpm when i crank it up the sweep on the meter goes to 15 and my fuse blows
I m pretty sure the gate in the diode is shorted open that is why its putting out vdc at idle but any imput would be gladly taken

35 Briggs Charging Circuit:
On a 35/36, the charge circuit starts to charge about 2000 RPM and increases as you raise the RPM’s up to about 3200 and then its a constant 14.2-14.6 volts at 20 amps. Just check with a voltmeter at the battery with someone controlling the throttle. If you are not seeing the voltage at the battery your voltage regulator may not be functioning. If you suspect the regulator, check the red wire at the voltage regulator with your voltmeter set on DC. You need 12+ volts DC, if no voltage is present at the red wire it will not charge your battery . Normal voltage at the battery after 10 min run time @3600 rpm should to be ~12.75 + volts DC.
Note that if you ever accidentally hook your battery cables up in reverse polarity you have a good chance of killing the voltage regulator.
Other things to check:
Unplug the voltage regulator at the 3 wire plug to check the stator. With a volt meter set on AC volts across the 2 yellow wires coming out of the stator you need 32 + volts @ 3600 rpm. If there is no voltage there, your stator may be bad.
