I was lookin at DDM new motor and started to let the James Beam think last night. Could we not turn our carbs around to face the front of the boat and get better air to the motor  less hot air  Would it not in theory act like a cold air intake, and at higher speed give more airflow (with the right filter)? Just a thought

That shovelhead carb, breather, and intake of MitchVs is about the best looking non-factory mod I have seen for a PD - he ought to market 'em.... |

Mine comes out the front of the motor on my mini airboat... It is done like this to get the filter out of the light air that is right in front of the prop. It also shortens the intake manifold to each port so there are less restrictions. Only thing you have to watch out for on mud motors is make sure the intake is tilted down a little so when the motor is trimmed all the way down the carb is level, otherwise you may end up dumping fuel into the intake flooding the motor. I will post up pictures of my mini later this winter. Trying to resolve some vibration issues with my Stage II motor. If anyone has any solutions to that PM me. |

maby balance flywheel and crank??n or have it looked at again to make sure evverything is still intact. How you know you have a vibration "problem"? or is it just vibrating alot? |

It is vibrating alot.... Backed a crankcase bolt out with only 5 hrs on the motor may have just been loose but it happened. Stripped the cooling tin that holds the coil. Actually one of the coil holddown bolts torn out of the tin. A few other screws vibrated loose. Broke the exhaust header at the flange. Need to get a lot of the vibration out before it starts breaking welds in the boat. Right now it is rubber mounted on the engine stand. Considering two options... thicker rubber or hard mount it. I am hoping it may just be a balance issue with the crank or flywheel. But having 67" of prop spinning off the motor may amplify the virbration so I have to get as much out as I can. |

dont hard mount it until u get the vibration out or you will have Big probelms........are you sure its the motor and not your fan? Do a search on stage 2 motors and you will see we all have the same problem.....the people who are not saying anything probly dont want to until they get it fixed..... goot luck. |

Its not a fan... its a prop for one thing... you mud motor guys need to learn airboat language. I have been told these motors just vibrate naturally and was wondering what is a normal amount of vibration... Once I get it out of the marsh I will have it back in the shop but got to use it cause its hunting season. The split will be here soon to give me some time to get it looked over. |

well maby you need to put a fan on it then.....bbbbbbwwwaaaaahhhhhaaaa and i know what thehell is on it, just around here we call them all fan boats.....why dont you go stand behind your fan and low yourself  all jacking aside..... When my rig was stage 1 it was bad ass, and once i got the case gasket stoped i had no problems no vibrations and it would scream. put the stage 2 on it and well i never got to see what the fuck a stage 2 is suposed to do for ya....it cracked the block once i got the bolts to stop breaking. |

A block is only $616.00. Drop the cash... rebuild the motor and get going again. If the block is the only thing that cracked. If you f***ed something else up then I dont know what the cost would be. Only thing I messed up on the block was I stripped a screw that holds one of the cooling tins... Drill and retap is all I have to do. I just hope the vibration is due to flywheel or crank and is actually fixable. |
