I have a 2008 36hp PD and it's not charging the battery. Has anyone had this problem and any ideas on where to start?
I have had the battery checked and I pulled the cables off the battery why is was running and used a test light and it has nothing.

Worked on an '06 vintage motor yesterday. I pulled the flywheel to replace the stator and found the failure in the pic below. The wires were chafing against the block on some of the sharp casting flash. On the older model motors, looks like there was no protective nylon sheath on the stator wires and the stator was installed were the yellow wires routed from the 2 o'clock position up to the voltage regulator.



The newer replacement stator has a white nylon sheath to cover the wires, the yellow wires are longer and the stator is to be installed with the wires coming out at the 4 o'clock position and clamping them under the lip in the motor plate. This is a picture of a 50A stator but shows the yellow wire routing under the plate.
