| Post subject: | Gtr trim problem |
My trim isn't working on my center console 37efi gtr. I figured out I had a terminal come off on my trim switch under the console so I replaced the terminal but in the process the other two came off and I wasn't sure which prong the positive and negatives wires went on. There are two positive and one negative wire. After experimenting I had the trim working like it should. A few hours later tried again and now it isn't doing anything. All the wires are still connected to the switch. I replaced the fuse under the console and still nothing. Also tried to look for the circuit breaker near the starter but don't see one. Anyone have any ideas on the problem? Thanks in advance |

There is a circuit breaker that will be Attached to the starter, and It is not resettable. It leads tot he Forward/reversing relay under the front trim cover. Take the cover off and use a dewalt 18v drill battery and remove the terminals from the trim motor from the relay and connect them to the battery by touching the terminals. Reveres the connection for opposite action. If the trim unit works your motor is fine. Also bypass the breaker with a heavy gauge wire from the relay to the battery and retry operation from the switch (after reconnecting terminals back into the relay). if it works you have a bad breaker. Do you hear the relay click both directions? If you do and everything checks out, the Relay could be bad. I have replaced a few of them. |

Ok thanks I'm going to try that. Do I have the switch wired correct? I have the positive wire with the fuse going to the middle prong and the negative on top and positive on bottom prong. |

Depending on switch it's power to feed switch and then feed from each position. Let me find a diagram. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Its a standard SPDT switch. The fused wire goes to the middle prong from the battery. Then each of the other wires goes to the Forward/reversing relay module. They are only Carriers from the switch to the relay. Also on the relay the power wire comes from the starter lug IE battery with (circuit breaker) the relay is then grounded to the engine. One side of the relay in input from the switch (the 2 carrier wires/ side power comes in), the other side (grounded side) is the output to the trim motor. Go to this site and click literature, and download the PDF-100 file. You will see what I am talking about. |

Well I don't have an 18 volt battery but I tried straight from the relay to the battery and nothing. Also checked continuity from positive and negative wires from battery side to lugs on relay and they both tested good. |

take the motor wires off the relay to verify the Trim motor is fine. If the motor works. It is probably a failed Relay module. Call GT and they will probably warranty it. If you are Local to Lafayette, LA area bring it to me and I will warranty it for you/ |

I ran a jumper from each wire from the switch straight to the battery and it works. i assume this means a bad switch but I'm also not getting an voltage from the power wire that's usually on the switch hooked up to the battery. |

You need to trace that wire and see why you are not getting power from the battery to the switch. That will not complete the circuit. |
