I've got a 38 mikuni on my 23 mini. I've been getting some backfire and so I've been playing with it. Long story short I'm not good with carbs and I think I may have done more harm than good.

I've got my needle set on the middle notch, and I was told to run the top adjustment all the way down till basically the needle touches the main jet and then back it off 2 turns. So I did, and my fuel air mixture screw I took all the way in and backed off 1.5 turns. Still running like hell.

What have I done wrong???

Is backfire your only problem now? Check for exhaust leaks, gaskets in good shape?

Did you run it today? Did the coils help? What kind of rpm were you turning?

Never got to really stretch it out with all the carb tuning

I think between my exhaust leak and the main jet getting loose was my issue.

I say the exhaust leak was definitely causing backfire. Not sure about the main jet till near WOT.
