Post Cam - will this work
My heart sank as I'm about to install the cam, and I notice this little baby chip. Will this work or am I screwed? Not happy but not Gona bash the dude, because I don't think this was intentional. But I know it wasn't on my part because its been sittin in the bubble wrap until now.... Man...

Put on a true straight edge and make sure the chipped area is all negative compared to thrust flange surface .If so then polish that area with 400/600 paper to make sure you wont eat the block . I wouldnt like it but i might run it .

I would look real close for any other "drop" marks. Used cams are a gamble anyway

I know man. Got me bent out of shape. Thought about ordering a new one. Being that the whole cylinder is there besides that small chip, I wouldn't think it would hurt anything, and would stay true to shape while spinning, but I had to ask people with some experience on this.

I wouldn't run it but it should be a simple repair for any camshaft shop.

Agreed. Wouldn't run it, but it's fixable, and won't cost much.

Now, a rolled lobe is a different story, but I won't jack your thread up anymore with that entertaining tale.....

Anybody had luck with the billet cams? I might just buy another one. I've always been told Pvts were decent so I wanted to try it. What kind of cams have y'all had good luck with? Somebody said to go with a Nick Peltier 308.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure it would eat it up quick and get into the block, causing problems. Tried to find info on the different grinds with little luck. In your opinion should one go with 310, or 312, instead? What's the difference in performance vs 308? I have the pink springs and shims .060, so I don't want to change that. What can I run without having to do different shims.

Boat is fairly heavy 17.6 X 50 gator trax. Stock gutted, and stock sized Manley valves is what he's installing.

Imo i wouldnt go any bigger than 308 wich is usally bout 246@.050. Going bigger could make your engine soggy on the bottom end and have peak power above the rpm you are goin to run anyway

Yea kinda unfortunate how much You can get screwed online for parts. Learned that the hard way to just buy new. Not telling people what to do with their $, but I'd definitely do some checking before buying parts. Especially on mud motor central. It don't matter if they've only put (or claimed to of put) very few hours on the parts, if they are damaged. At least now I know what to look for since I've started building one on my own. Think I'll give Pvt or dyno cams a call soon for another 308.

I wouldn't run it in my motor. I see your options as these. Bring it in and have it welded, machined, OD ground and install it, or get a new one.
