Anyone have a 37EFI PD with Delta Level 3 mods?
Just wanted to know if anyone was running a Delta Level 3 on their EFI PD. Was it tricky to get the prop worked or were you good with the stock two blade prop? I currently have a Gen III 37EFI, but my motor is being replaced because I was rear ended while trailering the boat, so will be going with a Gen IV this time around. If you are running a level 3 on a Gen IV what kind of speeds are you seeing? Did you have switch to a worked 2 or 3 blade prop?
Also saw that Delta is selling flashed ECM with their kits vs. the tuner which is pretty damn nice. Was not looking forward to having to tune it myself out on the water.

I ride with a guy with a level 3 with a stock two blade. Runs about 30 consistently on a 18x54 tdx gen 4. It has the tuner which is pretty easy to use.

Really? Just 30? I wonder if he'd benefit from a worked 3 blade. I've heard of guys running 30 with a stock motor with a performance exhaust. Any idea what he was running before he had the work done? We're talking the 1:1.52 ratio lower not the 1:2, right?

When he was stock with a q he ran about 25 maybe 26. Yes the 1.52:1

Yeah, you can hear anything about the speed of someone's rig. A consistent 30 is a good speed, deltas mods are good but they aren't magic.

Re: Anyone have a 37EFI PD with Delta Level 3 mods?
I run consistent 26 knocking on 27 with a gen 3 efi and a voodoo. I would think that I'd pick up a couple mph on top and possibly carry a load a bit better with a gen IV. That's really all I care about, just don't want to be doggin it with a load.

Do you think either of the DPE principals would have put these jacked up shims in a GTR? Just saying....i have another one that looks pretty comparable.

Man, pro-drive works great for me and the places I like to go, but I don't need to put down other people's shit. Enjoy what you got, people are happy with Delta shit and from my perspective they are doing a lot to push things further. People like to get on BPS, but they have also done a lot as well.

Re: Anyone have a 37EFI PD with Delta Level 3 mods?
Mike...it's only 30 years. Why don't you give me a reason why I pulled out shims that looked like they were hacked with a machete and had a port/polish job that looked like it was done with a chainsaw?
I don't doubt one bit that these guys are capable of doing good work. There are obviously a lot of happy customers out there. I'm not one of them. Or, I'm the only one speaking.
Just stating, the work I received was not representative of what has always been posted on the www. Maybe I'm not using the right lighting angle to look at those shims or the heads I had. Did I see gains and was I happy with my gains? Yes...absolutely. Do I think something was left on the table and a corner or two cut to get to the next engine in line (or some other reason)? Yes.
I look at the pictures posted and then look at my pictures....my pictures are the ones that look like the ones done by a shade tree mechanic.

Re: Anyone have a 37EFI PD with Delta Level 3 mods?
Someone has to make sure the koolaid doesn't get too sweet, that's all. If he's had work done by them and wasn't happy with it, then he's well within his rights to say something. I haven't had mods done by them but I have called their shop to inquire about some parts and was dismissed and rushed off the phone when I answered their question about what kind of boat and motor I had. I can definitely see where Troy is coming from. I was basically treated like if I didn't have a blank check written for them to cash at will, they weren't interested in talking... All someone can truly speak on is their own personal experience with someone or something. That's been Blue's and so far. that's been mine. If you don't like seeing someone post their own factual info, keep scrolling. Nobody forced anybody to hit the reply button.

I've backed off the brand bashing quite a bit....especially since the general tone of brand bashing has been stepped down quite a bit. And trust me....there has been waaaaayyyyyy more brand bashing by people with glass houses.

I'll say this. Delta has 4 employees and every time I been their they have had 20+ boats and everyone running around like crazy from trying to answer the phone to trying to take care of customers waiting to working on everything. Them boys bust their ass to make every one as happy as possible but you can never make everyone happy unfortunately. Blue did you get with delta and ask about your concern on the parts you received? If not you coming on here and attempting to blast them with out talking to them is childish

Re: Anyone have a 37EFI PD with Delta Level 3 mods?
As far as the shims go... At least those are "sized" to fit the pocket. Ive seen more than once other big name heads with shims that are too big dropped in the pockets and not even close to flat. Jammed in with 1/4 in up on one side like no one gave a shit. Your trimmed shims means someone cared.

Re: Anyone have a 37EFI PD with Delta Level 3 mods?
Zeek...it wasn't DPE that did the work. It was one of their principals prior to DPE. I didn't learn of it until probably at least 6 months later when I pulled it apart. I'm not at all saying they don't do good work. If they did bad work or had a bad rep, they wouldn't have so many satisfied customers....unless there have been issues that nobody is advertising....I know there were other issues prior to DPE that had a common denominator besides Briggs casting issues. Maybe their new cam specs has eliminated the need to stock up on case covers?
What do you do then? Live and learn. Move on. It was a costly lesson learned in the large learning curve I have experienced with these motors....no different than my experience with the Hopkins Cleaver. I've shared my experience and that's all I'm going to do or say. Like I said, I saw gains and I was pleased. Had I never opened up my engine, I would still be as happy and content for not knowing any different. Having seen the lack of attention to quality that has so often been advertised now leads me to ask, "Where was this on my work?" Why was mine different? The guy says, "It's all the little things that add up on these motors to give them more." I couldn't agree more. I now have different heads with milled spring cups fitting the shim diameters. I have personally done a LOT of little things that have brought my rig from a 25-27 MPH rig to a 28-30 MPH rig...still running a modified stock carb and the older, smaller outlet BPS Q exhaust. I'm sure if I went Mikuni with a more flowing exhaust, it could easily be a 30-32 MPH set up. Speed is not my ultimate goal. If I want speed, I'm buying an outboard. I want a 12.375" diameter prop to turn when I bury it in the thick stuff....and that's what it does.

Be nice to get some more info on dudes with Pro-drive efi's that have been modded by Delta and the performance they're getting...

Back to the questions at hand. Yes you will need to work your stock prop. My gen 4 36 has a mikuni exhaust and heads. It turns a brand new 2.blade at 4600 rpm on a 18/48 uncle j with a 3/16 bottom. Wasn't built by delta but just throwing it out there you will need prop work if you got with a lvl 3.

That's what I'm talking bout bigj, eye on the prize. I haven't gotten prop work done before, live up in Caroline's so I'm relatively new to this whole game. Just tell them what you're turning, type of boat, load, speeds, etc. and someone like baggys will know what to do?

Props are rig and application specific. I have different props for different applications. What my props do on my rig do not mean this is what they will do on yours.
There are a lot of factors which determine how a surface drive prop propels a rig. Knowing how your rig performed pre-mods and post mods ...and what you want to accomplish....will tell a wise prop guy how to modify the prop.

Just to piggy back on that....my best open water, load carrying prop will fall flat on its face in the really thick stuff. It will turn the thick stuff and inch along....but not like the prop I would choose if I knew I was going to SETX or Montegut. In the same breath, that mud prop will push my rig ~0.5-1.5 MPH slower.
