Post subject:  What is to come for Gatortail's 37 hp EFI with cast foot?

Last year I purchased my first Gatortail (Because of all the great feedback I had heard about the great reliability they come with). Since then, my boat has been in the shop four times. Once for the shaft magically splitting in open water and falling off, and this makes the third time for fuel issues. Each time I had issues, before bringing it in, I google and read up on the problem to find out if it is something that I can fix myself. Each time I've found that these problems have been common on these makes of Gatortails. I've come across plenty of instances that the EFI isn't bug free and they are constantly having problems with it, I've even heard this from the mechanics at service centers. Last night I skimmed across a thread saying that GTR is supposedly soon to be doing away with the cast aluminum lower units because they are having so many problems with them. As someone who spent 9k on my GTR with a cast aluminum lower unit and an apparently unfinished EFI system I'm starting to wonder what is up with this. Why would a company with such a good reputation for reliability release a model that is full of bugs and will leave it's customers stranded on the water? And what's going to happen to all the people like myself who have purchased this model? what are we supposed to do, just keep breaking down and bringing it in until it is all fixed? It kinda pisses me off that I bought and engine, only to find out that it's full of flaws.

Sounds like gatortail took care of the lower unit issue. As far as the engine problems all of the major companies have the same shitty power heads bolted on them.

Sounds more and more like they're watering down that kool aid over there..... I hear you on the efi thing, I stayed on the fence about it for a long time before finally pulling the trigger and I too have had problems with it. But that is a Briggs issue, if you had wanted you could still have gotten a carb motor. Most of the problems people are having are with the wiring harness and I hope now that mine is finally fixed. They guys at delta helped me get mine straightened out with all the fixes on issues they had seen so far. Its a good system when its working but I still wish alot of days that I would have taken the blue pill.........

The issues at hand with the Cast lower is when a prop fails. GT has since changed the props that cause failures.
As EFI's go. If the harness was replaced with a briggs part you may have the issue happen again as it is the same part that failed previously. The wires are very small with questionable crimps and chafing issues inside the sheathing so eventually it will get worked out.

I don't think anyone had any idea that EFI would cause so many problems. As far as the cast units go, the majority of those problems seems to be from a bad prop issue in which they resolved that problem
