If I do have to replace the clutch I was thinking I may want to change out the upper seal since it hasnt been replaced in 4-5 years. I have no idea how to do it, but when Mike at PD did it for me I remember he had a special press to install the new seal. How many of you all change your upper seal? Did you fabricate a press or install it some other way? Can the upper seal/ bearing be sent to PD for them to do it? I did do a search, but did not find much. Thanks, |

if it ain't leaking or giving you problems, might not be worth the effort. I just wait till something grenades then bring it to pd to fix. lol |

Depending on how milky it is i was told it may just be condensation but if water is coming out with it then its probably time for seals |

Pretty sure it is a Gen II, 2008. The Gen 1's are not able to upgrade to the LU zirk fitting, I believe, which I did this summer. |

if you change the upper seal, be sure to replace the lower seal as well. bottom seal is easy to change and look if u can add a seal so it seals on some fresh metal that usually works well. if u call pd i'm sure they will suggest changing top and bottom or at least bottom seal and see if that stops it before u go all ninja on it!!!! most of the time it's the lower seal that is the culprit. it gets worn and lets water in. the upper just vents it out when it gets too full. good luck. |

PD told me that they very rarely see any problems with the upper seals. I asked the same question as you when I had my LU apart last summer to change out my outdrive shaft. They said not to worry with it. I have seen a slight milkiness to mine in the past...nothing that has ever had me worried, though. |

Thanks Dead and Blue. I did just change the lower seal when I installed the upgraded LU this summer. Good to hear about the no worries on the upper seal from Peck cause I really dont want to mess with it and would probably have to pay someone to do it anyway as I have no way to press the new seal into the bearing. Thanks |

if you get some fishing string or trot line or even packed weeds in between the prop and the nut that holds the seals it will build up heat and could prematurely burn the seals. basically just like on a outboard or trolling motor. |
