What are the benefits of running synthetic in a 23 Copperhead? Just hit 11 hrs, and due for my first oil change, and I was going to start running synthetic, but not sure of the benefits. Also, any brand preferences? |

It's not dumb, but it's not exactly something to ask. It's truly personal preference. Go read the "which oil to use" posts on here, laugh, and you'll understand. Oil in a lawnmower engine is so much more about personal preference (though some people think they're oil experts when that list is actually VERY small), and less about the mechanical advantages and disadvantages that you're about to get trolled. Just run what the owners manual says, or switch, and don't overthink it. Lol |

Well my lawn mower gets regular cheap oil. My mud motor gets worked a whole lot harder, at higher RPMs, and under a heavier load. The Briggs owners manual gives you the recommendations for a lawn mower application. It tells me to change the oil every 100 hrs, which I don't know anyone that changes their oil in their mud motor every 100hrs. What I'm asking, are the benefits in the application of mud motors worth the cost? May be a toss in the bucket for some, but keep in mind I'm a broke fireman, and I've gotta cut corners where I can. As in if spending the extra $$ on synthetic oil is gonna save me from costly repairs later on down the road, then I'm in. |

It probably won't. Change it more often than the owners manual states to account for the faster breakdown, typically most of us do 25-50 hours. But I run conventional. |

Since your copperhead doesn't have reverse, I'd recommend conventional. But for the guys that have reverse, they are better off with synthetic since their rotating assembly spins in both directions. |

put mobil 1 10w30 in it and change it every 100 hours or until the oil turns black. got almost 3800 hrs on current briggs, and not many people on here run as hard as I do. hadn't had a oil related problem. |

Another one for Rotella. Ive had it in my mower since day one, and ive got 300 hrs on it so far, and haven't had a single issue. Also change it every 50 hours, and lots of the times, the oil isn't black. A little darker that when I put it in. |

The used oil usually looks the same as the day I put it in. Then i recycle it through my lawnmower . Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |
