Post subject:  Briggs warranty

I was wondering what the best way to get a warranty claim done on a Briggs 35hp(mud buddy sport) I noticed my motor burning about a half of a qt of oil a day. Still runs good besides the over oil consumption. I took it to my local Briggs dealer, the motor is just over two years old with no mods. The Briggs dealer noticed 95 for compression one side and 115 on the other. They are thinking it must have a broken ring. After using a bore scope the saw some scratches near the exhaust port in the cylinder, it also failed the leak down test. The Briggs dealer does not really want to work on it because they are a little worried about working with the unit and unsure about the reimbursement of their time. Can I submit a warranty claim on my own? I would be fine with installing a short block but we looked up the short block and it was discontinued two months after I bought the motor. June of 2014. It's seems to be a real struggle to get ahold of Briggs as a consumer and the dealer.

Thanks

Location? Find your local mm dealer, or call mb and get them to point you to one.

No you cannot be paid a warranty claim. Have your dealer you are working with call his zone rep. Claims are paid all the time on these applications. My advice to your dealer is to document repair procedures. Meaning take pics of the necessary removal of mudbuddy components.

I'll add this, any dealer that is concerned about being reimbursed for his time and tells you, the customer, that worry doesn't give much confidence that they're concerned about your engine running right at the end of it all. Their answer should be: "let me contact briggs and I'll get it all worked out" if they've never done a warranty claim before with briggs. Go find a new shop.
