Buying another longtail tonight for a layout. Was told it has a "mac island" engine... Never heard of them nor can i find anything on them. Looks like an older Lifan to me. Also the frame looks like either a a home job or an early go devil/beavertail. The grease reservoir is what makes me think that but the handle just looks off. What do you think? |

Took a chance blind on this longtail and came out on top. The engine is a Lifan 168f-2. The longtail is homemade, but is done right. looks like a 7x4 or 7x5 hill prop but i didnt have a chance to inspect it fully yet, didnt seem like alum so not a youngs . Looks like a 1 3/8 main shaft housing on a 3/4" shaft maybe even 1". Looks to me like is have bearings, and shaft seals including at least one maybe 2 mid shaft. Grease reservoir and at least 3 zerks. Thing is built like a tank, handle plugs into a receiver of sort and is kept in by two bolts and reinforced in all the right spots. Engine is rough will need a new exhaust, gas tank cleaned or replaced and a thorough carb job. Before i do anything though im going to check for compression and run a LDT, dont know what these little 6.5s should have but i could turn the prop more freely than i figured i could. Anyone know numbers off the top of their head? I read about how they have a compression release, if so then a comp test wont do much good till higher rpms. best part was $200, worst case scenario i scrap the Lifan and through a predator on it. (after a muffler and maybe a gas tank that is almost 2/3's of the predator) |

Serial number says its a 2005 Lifan 6.5 engine. Not so sure though, gas tank looks older with older style cap, unless the gas tank was swapped in its past. I plan to post up some pictures. Someone has got to recognize this build someone put a lot of time into this longtail |
