Engine wants to quit while open
I'm looking for help diagnosing a problem. First off, my enine isn't a Briggs or a Kohler, but any info would be helpful. I've got a subaru 23 hp mounted in front of the console, with the shaft running through to the stern. After running wide open for 20-30 min, depending on how much weight I've got in the boat, the engine seems to lose power and tries to quit. I don't know if this is related, but when it is wide open, there is a fine spray of fuel coming from the top of the carb. Ate these 2 separate issues or are they related? What should I do to fix them. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Engine wants to quit while open
My first check would be fuel flow. Pull the line off the carb point it into a container and let the engine run for a few seconds. It should piss like a drunk 21 year old male and not like a 70 year old who forgot to take his flowmax. If flow looks good check valves which could cause excessive fuel to spray out the carb. Your prolly gonna get a little of that even if everything is right though.

Re: Engine wants to quit while open
I had a kohler 20 magnum that did that. Fuel flow was good, replaced plugs, problem was not corrected till I removed carb and cleaned it. No parts were replaced, just disassembled carb and use about a half a can of carb and choke cleaner. Runs like a champ now!
