My old 23hp vanguard roared to life with the turn of a key and idled like a champ. My new 35hp vanguard does not start as quickly and has trouble idling - I'd like to see it sit at 1100 rpm out of the water, but it seems to go to about 800 and then die without throttle. The manufacturer told me to increase the tension on the low speed idle spring. I have a general idea on what to do, but would appreciate any specifics that you may offer. Does anyone have have a photo of that spring? Any advice on how best to increase the tension? I've seen some search results on her about a similar inquiry, but nothing on point. And, my boat is a distance away from my and not easily accessible. So, any advice you may offer is appreciated. Thank you. |

How the heck do you increase a springs tension? Lol. Especially a heavy duty one. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Bend the tab that the spring it on, or tiewrap a couple spring loops. |

Using the pic above the low idle spring is the smaller bottom one on the bottom. I set it with the engine not running and throttle closed and adjust it to the point of a little slack. This is accomplished by bending the tab a bit. The larger spring above is your governed speed at wfo, I set this to 4500 or so and use a 45 mag spring. The long skinny one above that is the throttle return spring, I don't have one and never have on my PD. |
