Hey guys long time lurker here. Been waiting to do my intro and boat review until I finish my mods.

Older 23 MudBuddy hyperdrive just put PVT cam and PVT intake with a tm 34 mikuni and MAC exhaust. Pulled gov when installing cam. Slide moves about 95%. Had motor at lawnmower shop a while back for other issues and he "trued up" the heads and did a "valve job."

Boat is a tin can 1448 mod v G3 no hooks. New big blade.

My problem is i can't turn over 3900 in water with a normal 2 man hunt load. Ive read guys turning 4700 with these mods... Speeds at 23 loaded.
What do you guys think is the cause of this? It has to be the heads right? Do I need them decked more or would port and polish really make that much difference?

Soo right now you have a big carb and big cam on stock heads with stock compression and stock timing. Yes you need head work. Or at least put a little timing in it

Not the ideal boat, it is slowing you down. As far as the speed and rpms you posted you should be seeing more, but one person's two man load might be another person's one man load. Another thing is your drive ratio, when I had a 23 hyper it was running the 34/52 pulley setup and could spin a 12.25 custom Hopkins blade with just head work at 28mph on 1748 lightly loaded. Definitely have the heads done by a reputable machine shop that specializes in engine/head work. I question a lawn mower shop having the proper equipment to do performance work. An advance key may be the answer as mentioned. Also take what you read with a grain of salt, I've passed guys running "30+" rigs with my 28 mph rig.
