Hey have subaru generator with tapered shaft that I may put on a surface drive if there is a way to convert/adapt to a straight shaft. Thanks in advance.

The only thing I have seen on here, the guy pulled the shaft, and had it welded up, then cut to be a straight shaft. Seems to me like the cheapest/ easiest thing to do.

I remember seeing an adapter that can convert a tapered to a straight. It basically slides over the shaft and is held in place with the bolt at the end of the crankshaft and uses the existing keyway.

As stated i opted to pull my shaft and have it machined.
The best option is a new crank for $6-800,but at that price i could find a similar engine used with the standard crank already in it.
So 2 other options.....gamble on that cheap taper adaptor,or machine shop.
Id pass on the adapter,to me it has failure written all over it.
On a gokart application....id gamble with it.but for a boat i may take on a 10 mile trip into marsh.....no gambling for me.
Just my opinion.

Made a new gasket for base.

Machine shop rates must be pretty low in some areas. Up here that would be the first hour of labor.
