For those curious minds, I did not blow my engine up, but I'm rigging the det cord and c4 right now. Will post a video once the countdown is over. |

Nothing blew. I will say it is a Briggs oem part failure. We all know briggs is perfect and that kind of stuff never happens. Haven't disassembled to understand the why. May not bother. |

That's what I get for giving my father my off brand starter (which is working fine, btw) and buying a Briggs oem replacement. Starter gets voltage and amps through the solenoid when the key is turned, but doesn't do anything. Solenoid is getting appropriate volts and amps from the battery/switch, and sends to the starter as it's supposed to, but doesn't click or make any other sounds. Removed the clutch switch out of the circuit, no change. Replaced fuse, no change. I've seen starters die. I've seen solenoids die. I've never seen them both go at the same time save for some major issue (like the other two starters I've had. 1 exploded, the other seized up because it wasn't disengaging from the flywheel). So yeah, 4th starter on the way for an engine that has a total of 40ish hours since I rebuilt it, 2nd brand new one. The three that were branded "Briggs and Stratton" have all shit the bed for 3 different reasons. Forgot to add, this motor cranked fine yesterday without a hiccup, never made funny noises. |

I see a common denominator here. |

The common denominator isn't the starter, cb. It's me. |

Russ, Electrical is not your specialty.... Only you can burn up that many Briggs starters. Also it might sound stupid, Ive seen many starter issues NOT be the starter. Have voltage at the yellow wire when Cool, but once warm no mo voltage... Check the yellow wire from the key to the clutch, then from the clutch to the solenoid. If in question replace the wire. |
