Re: Backfire
Yea that's exactly what happens to mine, a key is cheap and pretty easy to fix unless it's really stuck like mine was, but make sure you put a torque wrench on it and I'm pretty sure Briggs says it's 150lbs, I learned the hard way of not doing this

Re: Backfire
Valve train issues or sheared key in the crank. Both easy repairs but one takes a bit more time. These would be the first two things i'd check.

Re: Backfire
A Briggs and Stratton lawnmower repair shop. Seriously.
A mud motor dealer that sells units with Briggs engines and does repair work should have one as well.

Re: Backfire
He wasn't being a dick, fucktard. You don't have to have one nearby to be able to find a phone number for one and call them. You asked where to get a timing key, someone tried to help. Amazon has them too. But I suppose you already knew that and just asked because you wanted to create an Internet test for the people of mmt. You can make one out of aluminum foil if you get creative and you're in such a hurry that ordering one or calling a dealer in another town, city, or state takes too long.
Unappreciative jackass of the week.....

Re: Backfire
The first 3, as I remember, fit right in.
This is more of a "I'm better than you, and I misread what I was reading and took offense because I have an inferiority complex and thought I was being called stupid" because someone knew something he didn't.

Re: Backfire
First off my sincere apologies I read that wrong was on my fourth night in row of work. Thanks to everyone of you for the help. It was a push rod that had slipped off the rocker. Put back on checked clearances clean rocker bolt a put lock tite and torqued back down. Can't thank all of y'all enough for the help. Once again please accept my apology for the dick head commit appears the only dick head was me.

Re: Backfire
Dude, you're the first to ever own up to something like that here. Welcome to the crew, glad you got it fixed.
For the edumication of others, was that on cylinder 1 or 2 (starter side or oil filter side)? Typically if it's the oil filter side, the engine will still crank and run on cylinder 1, but wont on cylinder 2. I only ask because when we help someone troubleshoot, we go off of experiences we or those we know have had, and I'm just curious which cylinder it was.

Re: Backfire
It was on the oil filter side exhaust valve. FYI don't ever tell my wife I said I was wrong. Also this boat was bought used two weeks ago so probably not adjusted by previous owner.
