 stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
I have searched for 4 days and have found not found anything. I have a 23 vanguard on a gdlt im wanting to gut the factory muffler but wondering about it running lean afterward. I don't want a loud muffler im just wanting to do it for less possibilities of something falling down in the motor. Any info on the possible lean condition would help. I know when most do exhaust they change carbs. But im not looking for power just more safety..

Leave the jets alone.
You'll be fine.

Re: stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
Ok thanks. I didn't figure it would change the flow that much but wasn't sure. When you search on here no one ever says if they had to do any carb work when adding exhaust. I just figured it may run to lean with a little extra exhaust flow. But thanks for the quick reply.

Re: stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
It wont hurt anything to take all baffles out and leave just the exit pipe in tact will it?

Re: stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
But just slightly louder, at idle can't tell much difference at all

Re: stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
I don't mind slightly louder. Just don't want super loud. Does anyone know if you have to cut both ends off on the 23 like people was doing on the pro drives?

Re: stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
I cut it open with a cutting wheel, removed the inner pipe/baffle then had my muffler shop weld it back. Charged me $60.
Baffle was very restrictive. It's louder but gained lots of power. I cut it in 1/2 from the center up.
Good luck !

Re: stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
I only cut one end off of mine and it was rusted enuf for the baffle on the other end to come out without cutting both sides.

Re: stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
Sounds and performs great. I left about 2” of pipe inside both ends. Just removed the baffles. Also milled the carb and modified the air box and inlet. I think in total I got an extra 4 hp from a cheapo home fix. Woke up the 23 VG. Big time.

Re: stock gutted exhaust and jetting?
This one sounds pretty good, and didn't fool with carb jetting. Just a lot louder.
