 gator tail question
guys. new to the thread. im in the process of selling my john boat with a lt on it so i can put a down payment on a GT. i was just wondering though.. what is that u shaped bracket that hugs the belt housing? i see some motors with and some without. if this is on, does your motor still have the ability to pop over stumps? i apologize for the, im sure, silly question to you guys.. also, i am getting a custom boat made. im dead set on the 35 GT with a carb. what size boat should i put this on? i have a guy that will build me one. im thinking 17-18 with 46-48 width. thanks for any input guys.

 Re: gator tail question
I'd go with a 17x54 with a huntdeck, and are you possibly talking about the aluminum trailering bracket that goes around the bell housing for when you are traveling on the road..

 Re: gator tail question
Has the guy that is willing to build you a boat ever built one for a surface drive before?

 Re: gator tail question
If you don't want any wider than 48", go 18'x48" and roll out!
And yes, what you are describing is the GTR trailer it bracket.

 Re: gator tail question
Go as wide as you will allow yourself, and add a couple inches lol. If you get a 48, definitely go 18. The trailering bracket gets removed in your prep to put the boat in the water.

 Re: gator tail question
I was planning on going 16-17 at first.. thinking I would run faster. But I've realized this isn't like an outboard. I'll probably go faster with an 18.
Yeah I guessed it was something like that because I thought it would be weird if it didn't have something that serves the purpose of a transom saver. Thanks for the replies. Hopefully I'll be showing y'all my new rig soon.

 Re: gator tail question
IMO 1748 is one of the FASTEST sizes around. 1848 is a good all around size. These low HP engines need a boat with a good bit of buoyancy to keep them able to haul loads and get decent on lane performance. I myself like a longer boat!

 Re: gator tail question
My 18x60 with a carbed gtr will roll out (just shy of 35mph). It will tote a load at 30-32mph. I do have a few mods on it though. I would never go any shorter or narrower.

 Re: gator tail question
If you ride in any rough water, the extra foot really makes a difference in smoothing out the ride. It's also nice to have that extra foot if you hunt with 3 guys.
