Hey, I am new to the world of mud motors and I am having issues with my 22 hp predator on a backwater swomp lite frame. At the time of purchase, the predator was what I could afford... Running out of the water full throttle it runs fine, when I put it in the water full throttle it starts to starve and runs out of gas (mid throttle or idle runs fine). Carb is empty and takes a while to get it started again. Engine is stock and I am learning as I go. Fuel line is fine. Could my problem be with the float? I have heard these carbs a junk, are there after market ones that will fit this engine? Harbor freight is no help, I learned my lesson. Thanks in advance. |

A friend of mine had the same issue. I believe he said it was his fuel pump. He bought an after market one and hasn't had any trouble since. There are YouTube videos about this |

Good thinking, I will try that first. Do you or anyone else know of aftermarket parts that will fit on this motor to increase the performance? Thanks for the reply |

I have a Predator 22 on an older Go Devil Frame. My motor would cut off at sustained wide open throttle and it kept getting fuel in the oil. Cutting out under wide open throttle indicated no enough fuel. Filling the crankcase with gas indicated fuel system problems, mainly the float. At first I assumed it was just the stock fuel pump being crappy as most people have experienced and installed a $20 2-4 psi electric pump off Amazon. The pump wouldn't prime the fuel system and I tried twice to get it to pump fuel into the carb. After taking the carb apart and checking a couple different things I found the float valve was sticking closed or open. The float was fine but the clip and needle valve that attach to it were faulty. I happened to have a couple small engine carbs lying around and pulled the float valve from a Honda GX390 carb and put it into my Predator carb. At the same time I replaced the fuel line to 3/8" from tank to electric pump to filter, 1/4" from filter to carb. This work fixed my problems and my motor now pushes my 1548 22mph under perfect conditions. At first I was greatly disappointed in the Predator 22 and thought I had made a major mistake buying a frame with that motor on it for $700. I think the previous owner couldn't figure out the issue and that's partly why I got a good deal. I now plan to run It till it breaks or I upgrade. |
