What do you guys run for a cylinder?? I'm coming from a tiller motor and went to a side console and I really miss my sharp turning radius. The cylinder that was on the boat seems very short. Also anything I can do to make it steer "easier"? Turns very hard when turning against the torque bend on the skag. I love the console steer but it drives me nuts when I can't just whip it around. Any input would be great. Thanks.

That's the drawback of a console and remote steering. Your are limited to the stroke of the cylinder vs the mechanical limits of the frame with a tiller.

I have the exact same rig (I am in Marion, right down the road from you too!). On mine, I have the side mount sea star. they don't turn well to the left at all due to the stroke length. Run it and you will get use to it. I think the front mount units are an option, but spendy.

With SeaStar Helms(pump) there is a number (1.7, 2.0, 2.4?) the lower the number the easier to turn but more turns on steering wheel to go stop to stop. The higher the number less turns stop to stop but harder against the torq of the motor.
Steering cylinder "mounted" closer to pivot point of motor - more the turn radius.
Its a trade off to go to console from tiller.

I've ran Sea Star center mounts on my last two boats.

But a buddy of mine just got a gt rig with an Uflex center ram. I like the way it mounts to the motor a lot better than Sea Star. My next rig will probably have Uflex on it.

I know this post is well over a year old, but is there anymore information on it? I just purchased a GT remote steer motor and want to weigh my options between a Teleflex NFB unit, the UFlex Hydro and the SeaStar Hydro. For whatever reason, I didn't realize the center mount was even an option, I thought it had to be side mount.

Any help, photos, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
