| Post subject: | Best way to mod a stock exhaust? |
What's the best way? 1. Make the 1 outlet larger? 2. Add 2 additional outlets? 3. Gut it entirely and weld the caps back on? 4. Something else? FTR, this it for a 37 hp efi motor. Want to keep it as quite as possible while giving it better flow for heads, cam and programmed Ecu. |

Yeah it won't be quiet but sounds good imo. I use a stock exhaust for hunting and gutted one for the rest of the year |

When I gutted mine I didn't completely gut it. I cut the ends open drilled about 20 1/2" holes in baffle on each side, got a long bit and put about 10 holes thru and thru on the outlet, welded the ends back up. Been running like this for about 90hrs so far. Sounds like a bps q and there was no rpm change between a Mac single outlet and this exhaust. On previous motors I've completely gutted them and they usually only last about 50 hrs before they start falling apart without the internals. Ive gutted a few in the past. I figured out that when fully gutted you have to weld a reinforcement plate under tailpipe or it will be blown to pieces from both headpipes being aimed right at the tailpipe. It cherries up and falls apart. Also with a normal size outlet the pulses bounce back up into the oposite cylinder during vavle overlap instead of being scaveged. With a big tailpipe its not so bad but then it gets loud. My 2c for the day |

This one sounds good but is a bit loud, couldn't see any performance difference between it and a MB Y Cross over. At least it hasn't cracked after 70+ hrs.. |
