Yes there is a difference in Out put shaft height, between a small block Biggs and the big block.

Here are all the numbers on the belt. GT2 8MGT-1440-36 & 037V18 Gatespoly chain. Seem to be 1/2in to 1in to short. Different belt needed?

no 35hp sitting flat on the 1/4" plate that gatortail sent for the bigger bolt pattern of the 35hp. The one inch block that was under the 23hp are removed not used. Pic of the gap that is with the belt on the gear.

do you have a tension gauge?
New belts loosen up over time also.
You may be able to bolt motor to the frame and then the belt will loosen up and be good to go.

Not a new belt it is the same belt that was ran on the 23hp 7 years old. And when i tried to bolt the motor down i could only get the gap you see in the pic to close up half way.

Ok, i have done some homework. Here the info.
old 23hp
pto height----------------5-1/4"
+ 1" blocks that used = 6-1/4"
new 35hp
pto height ---------------------------------6-1/8"
+ the 1/4" plate for bigger bolt pattern=6-3/8"
so if i had a 1/8" plate to bolt to =6-1/4"
i believe that is way the belt is short. 1" block not used on the 35.

What do ya'll think??

1/8" plate would probably be the ticket.
That's the way to go.
Or bolt the block to the frame itself and put some 1/8" shims.

You'd have to drill holes for big block though

Have to have plate. The 35 bolts hole on this frame sits just over the edge of frame.
thanks for the replies! I am stil going to call GT Monday as they supplied me with the plate.

UPDATE!! Gatortail motor
If you have the old 23 hp and go to a 35hp you will have to change the bottom gear from a 48 tooth to a 45 tooth. This give you the belt length needed for the pto height difference.

there should be a different belt housing to make the switch possible using the 48t.

I have a 2010. made the swap to a 48t from a 45. changed the belt housing. not arguing with it as is from the factory that's what has to happen. just saying you can still run the 48 with the different belt housing. maxxis is the one that swapped mine for me with the belt housing and gear he got from gatortail. with a stock 35, you'll probably like the 48t better, as it won't lug the engine as bad for the same prop speed. should carry a load a bit better that way.

I would keep the 48 tooth and swap the belt box.... Way more Propeller options.

Thanks, that is good info to know. I will keep that in mind. Motor ran on a 1648 alumicraft ligth boat. So it should not go bad for now. I have a 12.25x10. Big blade that I will run on it.

Engine mounting plate, 48tooth gear, and a 48t belt housing, then you can run 35, 37, or 40hp briggs engine. The belt box is the part that your belt rides in.
