Post 23 Hp vangaurd beavertail performance problems
i have a 23HP vangaurd beavertail longtail on a 1448 grizzly tracker with pods. i am getting 12 mph with 2 people and gear. seems like i should be getting more speed. when i go to full throttle the rpms sound fine out of the water but the motor seems to bog down as soon as i the prop enters the water. also seems like its running rich. is there an engine issue? if so, any suggestions on how to fix the problem

Without a tach you aren't going to be able to troubleshoot vey well. Start there, then we'll be able to help more.

More likely a boat/motor mismatch.. That's a mod-v and at about 540lbs is pretty damn heavy for a 14 foot boat. I tried the same thing with a Waterfowler 15 by alumacraft. Just would not tote two guys. And your boat is 200lbs heavier. I tried pods also, with no luck.

For reference I have a stock MB 27 mini on a 1546 welded modV with pods and run 20 in deep water with 2 and hunt load. Alone I have hit 25.

That mini isn't an apples to apples reference with a longtail.

We used to run a 1546 flat xpress with a 24 hp longtail. It would plane 3 guys with gear. It wasn't doing it very quickly, but somewhere around 14 seems about right. Much lighter boat. You ought to be able to plane that load, but don't expect much more speed on that 14ft mod v. The 27 Kohler longtail on a 1648 xpress mod v managed around 17-18 with 2 and gear, 3 it would still plane but wasn't running 17 anymore.
