Post subject:  Need help with a clutch issue on a GTR

This past Saturday I snapped the belt on my GTR (manual reverse). Being the smart one I am I thought you had to remove the clutch and the lower unit to replace the belt (stupid I know). So I got the belt on and everything put back together. When I crank the motor the prop begins to spin as it would if it were in gear at idol speed. So my question is, what have I done wrong to cause the motor to act like it’s in gear when it isn’t? The clutch still engages but it is useless because the belt is already turning at a speed that would would when normally in gear.

Any help is greatly appriciated

Is the belt tension good? Typically a spinning prop is thick oil (cold oil) in planetary and not enough grease in the LU

Yes, the belt tension is good. And it is spinning a lot faster than that. You can’t stop the spin with a 2x4 like you could when it’s just free spinning.

check to see if the armature disc is rubbing the rotor.
