Post subject:  4400 BD HDR (Clutch Oil Leak)

Did my 100hr / post season maintance today and when I took the top belt cover off I noticed oily film all in the inside of the cover. When I drained the clutch oil (first time) some oil did come out but not
1 1/4 oz. of oil as it states is required to fill it. So I have a leak! Is there a How To Video on how to change out the seal on a HDR Mud Buddy?

Any advice would be greatly appre.

Thx

I did the same thing on my 4400 last year when in hit 100 and had the same exact issue. I called mudbuddy and from what I remember they told me they put less than the 1 1/4oz they tell you to put in it. They did however send me a new seal to put in the clutch that should fix the issue, I havent checked it since though. I would recommend calling MB, I typically talk to Keith.

I noticed oil coming out the vent in the belt housing and found out my clutch seal was shot at 20 hours. I called MB and they informed me they changed seals because the ones the put in around 2016 were shit. Once I got the seal it took about 5 min to replace. I'm wanting to say it came with instructions but it's pretty straight forward.

RGR, thanks guys, yep... Keith sent me a new seal, my 4400 is a 2016 model.. took me about 15 min. to change out. and while I had the cover off, I added some lights... These are led flood lights which are hooked up to a switch on the motor opposite side of the turnkey. Thanks for the response.

LOL... no, actually they will never be on when I'm running the boat... They are for seeing my spread better... I hunt a sound for divers mostly here in NW Florida... My buddy and I have this shallow area to hunt in the sound,,, I'm putting decoys out by the front of the boat (have bar light) and he is taking care of them it the end of the boat... figured it would help him out as well... But YES, when I'm in the marsh and I chose to get there at 0400 so I can get a good spot,,, and the guys that show up at 0530 heading my way... now I can light up DEATH and they will know that I've woke up early and got the spot,,, "so get along little doggy, get along".... LOL
