Post Prodrive Speed. Needing help!
New to the Forum. I recently purchased a 1854 Prodrive rig not running. The boat is in good shape. No hooks. Since then, I have gotten the engine running. My motor is a 2006 gen1 32hp. I getting 4100-4200 rpm out of the water. 1300 idle. With myself (320#) and friend 180# II saw 22mph@3750. With 950# of people this weekend, I would only plow at 11-14mph. Are these numbers correct?

I have been thinking about doing a few mods to this engine or if it would just be a waste. I might look for a 40efi to replace my 32hp.

Yeah, those numbers don't seem too far off when you consider it's probably got some valve leakage. A new powerhead (Briggs or kawasaki), mod that one to turn it into a 35 or more, or a used powerhead that's already modded are your options. I wouldn't do just a valve job on that one unless you aren't looking for much more than you're getting now.

I have the same sized boat with a stock (for the week) GTR35 and those are essentially the exact same numbers. You're driving a lawnmower engine on a big boat with 4 ppl after all.

I don't doubt it, but it loses top end because of the shorter stroke, does it not?

The EVT guys really liked them. Something about the square bore/stroke philosophy.

Better torque curve in the rpms we need the torque, spins up faster, etc, but the negative is a tad less power on top. Guess with enough added compression you can make up for most of that.

I would try hydro foils.

I have a '16 1848 w/ a stock 37efi. Here are my numbers in smooth water.

Solo with some fishing poles 27-28
Solo with duck gear 26
2-up with duck gear 23-24
3-up with duck gear 18
6-up with dog and jugline gear 16

Also consider where your weight is can significantly effect speed. There's no one answer for all boats, you'll have to experiment and see what your setup likes best.

Thank you guys for the help. This has been a very helpful site.

I have a 42mm mikuni off of a 4wheeler at work. I’m thinking about trying to find all of the parts to add it along with a used performance exhaust. I figure a shop locally will shave the heads and I can port/polish them to the intake myself. I am trying to keep from sinking a whole lot of money into such an old motor. Can I shim the factory valves or should I try finding new ones as well?

With a little searching I'm sure you could find a 36 crank and c-rods for pennies on the dollar. Worth the time imo.

I might have a spare crank, but no rods.

If he decides to go that route, I've got a block and crank available. I think hes gonna go heads and fuel right now.
