Post Re: Running the gas out
long term storage... Id run it out of gas, and pull the push rods to seal off the Combustion chamber. Long term as in it aint gonna run in years.. Id also run oil in the cylinders before pulling push rods and let the rings move it around.

ive had many motors sit 6 moths plyus with non ethanol fuel and they run great. Its aboyut consistent fuel i will agree with giga there. All the info that big oil companies tell us is to make you feel good. The guys in the refineries know whats up as they make the gasoiline lol.

All good info. I mostly base my run it dry on Honda generator info. They recommend run it dry and then they have a valve to completely drain the carb, fuel bowl I assume.
If I know I will run the mud motor in a couple weeks, I won't bother. But here lately it's been more like a couple months between runs.

And you still act rude and ignorant.... A typo - so what... This is just a discussion...

Ethanol or not, gasoline degrades quickly as it reacts with heat, ultraviolet light, oxygen (tank venting) and ozone. Within 3 to 4 weeks, untreated gasoline vented to the atmosphere will start to show signs of deterioration through the formation of polymers (unstable hydrocarbon fuel molecules) and the vaporization of light ends (fuel evaporation). The polymers (varnish) will tint the color of the fuel while evaporation causes the lighter ignition vapors to disappear. The result is a progressively darker, heavier, stickier and less volatile fuel. When dealing with degraded fuel, do what you can to remove it from tanks and fuel systems.

SeaFoam - Stabil - and other additives add shelf life out to a year if put in the day you pump the
gas and coat metal parts with anti oxidants and anti corrosives - unless you run dry and defeat them....

Just like you need a gun for a gunfight....

Pick an additive you can easily source and put it in every gallon of gas you buy.....
Adding it later after gas spoils wont work any better than asking to go get your gun for a gunfight...

Then you are prepared and running dry is undesirable for 1 to 2 month storage - IMO !

Allot of small engine places near me are pushing an enzyme called Star Tron. Supposed to be the latest and greatest when using ethanol blended gasoline. I'd opt. for a recreational gas (non-ethanol) and put marine sta-bil in it. You should be ok for at least a season if not longer for storage, and if you aren't using it much it should be reasonable in cost to mix up a couple gallons. Also, if storing for extended periods you might want to consider fogging the engine. Any of the well known mfg. make it. (Amsoil, Sta-bil, Sea Foam, Sierra, etc...) I know it's not the best product for the job but I've even used WD-40 in a pinch. Just have some plugs handy when you restart as you will probably foul them.
